Happy New Year!!!

As I sit here writing this post I cannot believe that in a few short hours it is going to be 2007! Time continues to fly. And while New Year's Eve tends to be a happy night full of drinking and partying with friends, family, and loved ones, I cannot help but feel a bit sad on this night. Who knows what the next year has in store. Who will not be with us, who will have to go through troubled times, etc. Of course, I also think about what joyous times are ahead. Who will be getting married, who is going to have a baby, who will get a great new job, etc. It may sound corny, but I guess the point is to truly appreciate the times you have with the ones you love.

Okay, enough with the sappy stuff. So with each year comes a new list of resolutions that I struggle to keep. This year I want to focus on leading a healthier lifestyle. I want to eat healthier, cut down on my Diet Coke addiction and drink more water, work-out more, and force myself to walk home instead of hopping on the bus or subway when I get lazy. I'm also going to try and keep my apartment as neat and tidy as possible.

So to everyone out there, have a very safe and happy New Year's Eve! If you're in Chicago, remember that the CTA is offering penny rides tonight to help the lushes get home safely!

Cargo PlanetLove Lipstick

Cargo Cosmetics is all about the new products lately. A few days ago I mentioned the new PurseGlosses and today I find out about CARGO PlantLoveā„¢ Botanical Lipsticks. Now, I am so not one of those vegan enviornmentalist chicks, but I must admit, I still do think these new lipsticks are pretty cool. Every piece of the packaging of this product is 100% biodegradable. The box the tube comes in is even made of flower paper; just plant the box and wait for some wild flowers to pop on up. Not only is Cargo taking care of the environment with this product, they are also donating $2 from each sale to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. 5 of the 12 shades were designed by celebrities including Lindsay Lohan, Mariska Hargitay, and Evangeline Lily. I haven't tested this product out yet, but it's description says that it promises to be a very moisturizing lipstick containing a botanical blend of oils and shea butter.

Cargo PurseGloss

CARGO Lip Gloss Duos have a cult following. I am one of the cult members. Soho is a go everywhere duo. But the problem is that the Cargo tins weren't really able to "go everywhere." The lids to the tins easily fall off. If you even chanced toting it around in your purse you ran the risk of the lid falling off and giving everything a nice lip gloss frosting coat. The glosses are also prone to melting (read my archieved post about ordering Cargo glosses and receiving a box of goo) in the tins and basically turned into a big useless mess. Finally, Cargo has done something to aid its cult in making the glosses "to go" friendly. Introducing CARGO PurseGloss. The packaging is oh so cute. Simply squeeze the plastic tube and the attached brush is filled with gloss. There is even a "shut off valve" built into the dispenser to prevent leakage. The downside is that not every color of the original Cargo Lip Gloss Duos is available in the new Purse Gloss form; however, they do offer quite a wide range of colors so you're sure to find something that you will love. Retail $16.

Victoria's Secret Semi-Annual Sale

Just a quick note to let you guys know that the Victoria's Secret Semi-Annual Sale has started online. While the Sale won't hit stores until sometime in January, you can get a head start by heading over to VictoriasSecret.com. This is by far my favorite sale of the year. Victoria's Secret is the only brand that I wear, so you bet that I stock up twice a year at the Semi-Annual Sales. I don't know what day the sale starts in stores, but as soon as I hear I will definately post it.

Bare Escentuals Tutorials

One of the things that I love about Bare Escentuals cosmetic kits, besides the fact that they come with full size brushes, is the fact that every set comes with a snazzy set of directions. A spiffy guide that includes both drawings as well as thorough written instructions accompanies every kit. Let's face it, who remembers how to apply it the way the cosmetician did it? Hardly anyone. And while I'm a firm believer that you don't have to use make-up exactly the way you are shown how by the cosmetic companies, sometimes you do want to recreate the look that the model was sporting. Since Bare Escentuals has already mastered this act of offering instruction, it makes perfect sense that they are now offering a new line entitled "Tutorials". Bare Escentuals Tutorials - Lesson 1: Smokey Eye offers a lesson in creating smokey eyes; a look that everyone wants to try at some point in time. Now even, a make-up obsessed junkie, will admit that creating smokey eyes is not always the easiest thing to do. The first time I tried to do the smokey eye look I used a really heavy jet black eye shadow that gave me the most horrendous racoon eyes I have ever seen. Thankfully, you won't have to worry about this with this set because they will walk you through step by step in creating smokey eyes using the eyeshadow shade Skyline (gray lilac) and the Glimmer shade Celestine (ivory). You also get the brush tool to ensure that you will create perfect smokey eyes. This is a great idea. Not to sound like the Carmax commercials but, "I can't believe no one has thought of this before." I can't wait to see what the future "lessons" will be!

New Spring Make-Up Kits

After I posted the new coupon codes for Sephora I headed on over there to see if they have added anything new and lo and behold they have. Sephora, like many other retail sites, are jumping onto the Spring season bandwagon and have added many new Spring collection kits. I for one am very excited to see so many great new light and bright Spring colors.

Stila On the Go Set ($65 Value) On the Go Set. I always look forward to Stila's kits for each season. Sometimes I am disappointed because the kit features solely foundations and primers and no color, but most time I am excited to find great eye shadow palettes. Their new On the Go Set delivers with a great eye shadow quad featuring four .22 oz eyeshadows in shimmering beige, golden taupe shimmer, rich chocolate with gold shimmer, and peach shimmer. Stila has mastered the art of eye shadow shimmer. Each shade offers the perfect amount of shimmer without being overly glitter. No one wants to look like they used the make-up that came with their 1980s Barbie doll after all. Also included are a 15 oz Convertible Color in Lillium (fresh rosy peach) and a .04 oz Lip Glaze in Honeydew (sheer golden pink shimmer). Peach blush is the perfect shade for every skin tone. It is one of those shades that highlights your cheekbones without drawing too much attention to them. It would be nice if this collection came in a real make-up bag as opposed to a "bag" made out of cardboard. Only $30.

LORAC Maui Wowie ($90 Value) Maui Wowie. LORAC has finally taken a hint from numerous cosmetics companies and have begun offering more and more kits. I am a huge LORAC fan, but hate the fact that usually you have to buy many seperate products as opposed to getting a handful of them in a handy dandy kit. That is slowly but surely changing. Their new Maui Wowie kit is screaming Spring. The four eye shadows (Macadamia (cream sparkle), Pacific (shimmering aqua), Hibiscus (dusty rose), and Toasted Coconut (warm brown sparkle)) are absolutely gorgeous. The shimmering aqua shade seems to be one of the "it" colors this Spring. Also included in this set are the Hot Flash blush/bronzer duo (pink & bronze shimmer); a 0.07 oz Lip/Cheek Tint (creamy pink); a 0.07 oz Hawaiian Ice Lip Gloss (shimmery pink); plus a double-ended lip and eye brush, cheek brush, and mirror. The fact that this kit includes the necessary brushes means that this is a toss and go set. Going away for the weekend? Toss this kit into your bag and you're good to go. Only $37.

Nars Deep Throat Blush & Striptease Lip Gloss Set. After their very successful Orgasm kit, Nars has finally released a new lip gloss and blush set. What's even better is that this set introduces the brand new lip gloss shade of Striptease. Nars calls the new pearlized glazed sheen color "the quintessential nude lip gloss that imparts a universally flattering, candlelight-nude luster to lips." I have to say, I am so curious about this lip gloss. The color sample on the website along with the description makes this sound like the new must have shade. Ever since Jennifer Lopez hit the scene with her super glossy nude lips I have been in love with the look. This shade sounds like it would give you this look. I cannot wait to try this shade. I am already a huge fan of the Deep Throat blush shade. Again, here we find another gorgeous peach hue for the Springtime. Nars blush always has the perfect amount of light reflecting shimmer in it. It allows your face to catch the light and just gives off a radient glow. Only $45.

Bare Escentuals Park Place Princess ($83 Value) Park Place Princess. I have tried every product in this kit and can honestly say that I love them all. Set includes a .02 oz 100 percent pure bareMinerals All-Over Face Color in Glee (for a soft-focus, muted mauve glow), .02 oz Feather Light Mineral Veil (enhances your complexion to royal perfection), .02 oz bareMinerals Glimmer in Drama, .2 oz Lip Gloss in Glee (together, this golden brown shadow and silver plum gloss add the perfect balance of drama and class for this very sophisticated look), and a Double-Ended Soft Focus Face and Eye Brush. The Drama Glimmer is my absolute favorite Bare Minerals eye shadow shade (okay, maybe it's a tie between Drama and Nude Beach). It is a gorgeous golden brown shade with breathtaking shimmer. Also, you can never go wrong with a Bare Escentuals brush. That is one of the things that I love about Bare Escentuals kits; most of them come with full size professional make-up application brushes. Most of you are well aware of how pricey cosmetic brushes are. With a kit like this, you are able to score gorgeous cosmetics as well as professional brushes that can be used with other cosmetics as well. Only $42.

New Sephora Coupon Codes

I'm happy to report that Sephora has two new coupon / promo codes available. Now through the end of the year use promo code COKE to receive FREE SHIPPING on orders of $25 or more. Also, from now through January 15th, use coupon code GORGEOUS to choose your FREE DELUXE SAMPLE of your choice of Philosophy Make-up Optional set, Aquolina Pink Sugar, Fresh Supernova Mascara, Dior Capture Totale, or Murad Acne Body Wash. If you're using the second coupon code I highly recommend the Philosophy Make-up Optional set. This is the collection I use to cleanse my face.

Laura Geller Lip Stay

In many a past post I have exclaimed my love of MAC Pro Longwear Lip Colour. It was the only lip color I found that can withstand a whole day of drinking Diet Coke straight from the can; until now. I was amazed when I tried out Laura Geller Lip Stay in Pucker. The gilded apricot shade offered the perfect amount of subtle color and the clear top coat offered super luminous shine. As I applied the Lip Stay color to my lips I could actually feel the coat sealing onto my lips, but not in an annoying way. I knew immediately that this baby was not coming off my lips without a fight. The clear top coat stayed on for quite a while (in all honesty, I looked in the mirror on and off for about 2 hours and saw that it was still all good and then just got too busy to do that!); of course it didn't last as long as the lip color itself did, but that's true for the MAC product as well. The great thing about the Laura Geller Lip Stay product is that it retails for only $13 (compared to the $20 retail price of the MAC product). I have known many a person who refuse to spend $20 for a lip gloss (I of course am not one of them!), so this product is great for them. This product definately gets my seal of approval. I can't wait to try out the other shades.

Happy Holidays To You!!!

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, great Kwanza, or whatever holiday it is you celebrate. My Christmas was fabulous. It was wonderful spending time with friends and family...especially when those friends and family members were showering me with lavish gifts. Okay, so they weren't all lavish gifts, but I loved them all just as much. I received many gifts that I can't wait to try out and tell you all about (especially the Infiniti by Conair Hair Designer Professional Tourmaline Ionic Styler Model 208 that keeps getting rave reviews in every beauty magazine that I have seen). Although I'm sad that Christmas is over, the good news is that the end of Christmas signals the post-Christmas sales at the stores. CNN.com reported yesterday that overall Christmas sales are down in the retail world thus opening the doors to huge after Christmas sales in hopes of luring customers in and thus reviving lagging sales. Let's hope that's true!

NARS Spring 2007 Collection

Being as it is only December 17th and winter has yet to begin, imagine my surprise when I checked my email last week and saw an email from NARS Cosmetics announcing their new Spring 2007 line. Spring?!?! You've got to be kidding me! But I quickly got over my shock and surprise and became very intrigued with the new colors I saw. Beautiful pinks, greens, apricots, and plums await. I cannot wait to see these colors in person and to try every product on personally. I'm literally excited about every piece. So what does Spring 2007 have in store for us???

Lip Gloss in Risky Business (Sheer Persimmon): I personally think this is going to be the greatest shade from NARS since Orgasm. A gorgeous deep shade of pink with shimmer, this shade is sure to be a winner. I'm not even going to wait to check this one out in person. I already know this one is going to be a winner. I've never met a pink shade by NARS that I haven't loved.

Habanera Eye Shadow Duo: Definately the winning eye shadow duo in this new collection. Pale mint green and plum-tinged charcoal are perfectly matched to give you a smoldering smokey look without being over powering. The pale green is the perfect shade to give the smokey look the Spring look. Gorgeous.

Thebes Duo Cream Eyeshadow: Okay, looking at the picture of this one, I think it looks a little weak...doesn't pack that much punch. However, these shades are for the Springtime so I guess they should be lighter. Lighter shades also tend to bring out your eyes (at least that's been my experience, others might disagree). I personally love gold and brown shades, so I think this one has potential. This duo is definately one I will have to check out first before I buy it.

Tutti Frutti Sheer Lipstick: Just looking at the picture, it looks like this is going to be the perfect sister product for the Risky Business lip gloss. I am definately a gloss person, but I do like to wear lipstick underneath glosses sometimes. When you are able to perfectly pair up complimentary lip gloss and lipstick shades it really makes the color pop. Risky Business and Tutti Frutti look like a match made in heaven!

I'm Baaaaaa-aaaaack!!!

So my finals are finally over!!! Yeah!!! I've got sooooo much to talk about. Sephora on HSN (what a let down)...NARS Spring 2007 collection...I love Laura Geller products...and so much more. So let's get down to business. Let the beauty blogging begin.

Sneak Peek At Sephora On HSN

Every Monday night at 6 pm Chicago time, HSN.com has their NFL Shop that my boyfriend must watch. While watching tonight I was happy to see that they are now offering a sneak preview of the Sephora boutique on HSN.com. So I excitedly ran to HSN only to be disappointed by what I have found so far. Prominently featured are The Balm and Urban Decay...2 brands that were already being carried by HSN. Sure, they've added Dior, Cargo, and the Sephora brand to name a few, but nothing new and exciting. The prices are exactly the same as what Sephora is charging and the gift sets that are currently featured are also available at Sephora. I really thought they would offer some exclusives or at least some introductory prices to start off this new relationship, but so far that has yet to be seen. Oh, and the kits that they have available from The Balm have been available on HSN for quite some time and only a few weeks ago were marked on clearance for close to $9. One good thing is that if you wanted to pick up any of the brought to you by Sephora items from HSN, they are currently offering FREE SHIPPING. This is pretty nice since Sephora only offers FREE SHIPPING if you spend $75 or more. Unless I am run over by a car, I will be watching the premiere Sephora show on HSN on the 13th, so I will most likely update you while I'm watching.

I Want Longer, Lusher Lashes

I said in a previous post, I love the look false eyelashes provide, but I am stupid when it comes to applying them. So as a result, I am always looking for ways to make my own natural lashes look longer and lusher. I'm always up to try new mascara (which is why I was really excited about the Max Factor set I posted about earlier), looking for that new super mascara that will give me such enviable lashes. I've also noticed that tons of other gals are on the same boat. So for all of my lush lash wanting girls, I've got a tip for you.

I'm sure some of you use lash primer. I will admit that I do not always use primer. I know, can you believe it! I always use the free sample primers and the primers that come in the gift with purchase kits when I have them, but I can not bring myself to pay for primer...especially since it costs almost as much as the mascara. So what do I do you ask? It's a very simple trick that anyone can do. Simply place some loose powder on your lashes. The powder adheres to your lashes and serves as a kind of primer which then latches onto your mascara. Many of the eye shadows that I use are in loose powder form so I just sprinkle a little of that on my lashes. Who are we kidding, most of the time the powder falls onto my lashes as I put it on my eyelids anyways. I hope some of you find this helpful.

I Love DuWop Fierce Glosses Venom Lip Gloss Set

I'm taking a little study break and realized that I haven't let you guys know that I received the DuWop Fierce Glosses Venom Lip Gloss Set a week ago. All 4 of these shades look even hotter in person. DuWop really hit the nail right on the head with this set. Each shade offers the perfect amount of color without being over powering. Fig, a little darken than nude shade, and Wisteria, a smack dab in the middle of pink and berry shade, are my favorites. Since these are smaller tubes, I am happy to see that Wisteria is available in a full size tube, however, the other shades are not. I continue to be impressed with DuWop. All 4 of these shades are so neutral that they will compliment any skin tone, any make-up scheme, any outfit, etc. This is a "you can't mess it up" set. Those are always the best ones. Out of all of the lip gloss sets out there this Christmas, this one is by far my favorite (although, I do like the other kits too!). However, I will say that the "case" that it comes in is good for absolutely nothing. It feels and looks so cheap. That is probably the one thing that is lacking from this kit. But at the same time, I have so many "make-up cases" that I don't need another.

Zales has a special offer going on right now. Their Lab-Created White Sapphire Circle Pendant in Sterling Silver, a $129 value, is being offered for $29.99. My lovely boyfriend gave me the Zales Diamond Circle Pendant for Christmas last year and it is absolutely gorgeous. I get tons of compliments every time I wear it. Every thing that I have from Zales is of top quality and looks spectacular, so I can only imagine that the same is true of this. Since I already have the diamond pendant, I picked this up as a little stocking stuffer for my sister. At this price I couldn't pass this deal up. You wouldn't be able to get cheap-o cubic zirconia on sterling silver for this price. You should also check out there huge Clearance Department for tons of other pieces marked at unbelievable prices. Oh! I almost forgot! You also get an extra 10% - 15% off storewide through December 10th.

Laura Geller Balance-N-Bronze

Although Laura Geller has been around for quite awhile, and her products seem to pop up everywhere, I have never tried her products. I am kicking myself now! A few months ago, my Mom purchased a kit of hers and fell in love with it and told me to try it. Typical procrastenator that I am, I never got around to it. Then while channel surfing about a week or so ago, I saw Laura Geller herself giving some tips and showing her products. I was more than intrigued with her Balance - N - Bronze (Balance & Bronze), so I ran out and picked it up. OH...MY...GOD!!! How have I lived without this for so long?!?! This product combines her Balance - N - Brighten (Balance & Brighten) and Bronze - N - Brighten (Bronze & Brighten) in one convenient compact. Use the "balance" side to balance out your skin and even your skin tone. Let me just tell you, this is replacing foundation for me! It feels so light and airy, like I am wearing nothing, but still is able to make my skin look flawless. I could not believe my eyes. One quick layer of this lighter than air powder and I look like I walked out of a magazine shoot. But the fun does not stop there! Then use the "bronze" side to give your skin a nice sun-kissed glow. Everyone needs the help of a bronzer in the winter. The problem is that some bronzers are so noticably fake that it makes you look like an Oompa-Loompa. My skin looked so natural with this product, I am still in disbelief. In all honesty, my skin looked so great that I didn't even need to add any blush. The fact that this product is made up of many shades that perfectly compliment each other makes this a product that will work well on any skin tone. I speak from experience. My skin tone is some what medium while my sister is increadibly fair. We have both tried this product out and it is perfect for both of us. This product is a steal at $28, especially considering that you can easily pay double that in order to get a separate bronzer and a seperate foundation.

Sephora.com is offering a special Laura Geller kit for the holidays. Laura Geller Baked Beauties Collection ($100 Value) Baked Beauties Collection contains my new favorite product, Balance - N - Bronze (Balance & Bronze), as well as Blush 'n' Brighten in Golden Apricot (bronze, gold, and rose); Baked Eye Shadow in Unearthed (bronze, chocolate, and champagne); plus a Creamy Mascara in Black, Lipstick in Peach Melba (bronzed rosy peach), and a 1 oz Spackle foundation primer mini in a clear, zippered travel bag. With the exception of the Spackle, all of these products are full sized! Great deal. Only $55.

On more thing while we're talking about Laura Geller. My Mom originally tried her products because of the Laura Geller Spackle. This is what Laura Geller is known for. This under make-up primer smooths out your skin and fills in the lines and wrinkles. Since I'm still in my mid-20s, I'm fortunate enough not to have to worry about wrinkles yet (and believe me, I'm taking every step to keep that up!), but I must say that this primer is great for other reasons as well. It really keeps my make-up in place. For people with really oily skin, give this a try. It acts like a barrier between your skin and your make-up. And for people looking to hide fine lines and wrinkles, my Mom gives her seal of approval on this one! Only $21.50. Her line also contains eye and lip spackle. Ideal for people who have trouble keeping eye shadow from creasing.

Check back in the coming weeks, because I just ordered a few other Laura Geller products including lip gloss and eye shadow. Supposedly, her Lip Stay lip glosses stay on forever! And her eye shadow is available is some of the coolest colors I have ever seen. Believe me, I will try this products as soon as I get them and will share my experience with everyone!

Sephora Teams Up With HSN

HSN.com has a nifty little post on their site today. Apparently, they are teaming up with Sephora and will be broadcasting live from the Sephora 5th Avenue flagship store on December 13th. I am definately intrigued and can't wait to see what this partnership has in store. I have searched around and cannot find any kind of confirmation as to what is going to be offered. Will it just be Sephora brand products or will it be brand name products currently available at Sephora stores??? As you all know, QVC already sells some of the best known brand name products that Sephora sells (Bare Escentuals, Tarte, Philosophy, Smashbox, Laura Geller, Benefit, and on and on and on), so one can argue that it would be a conflict of interest for both of these stations to be offering the same products. I guess we'll have to wait until the 13th to see what they have in store for us. If anyone knows more details, please leave a comment for everyone to see!

New Products From ELF Cosmetics

I meant to post about this a few weeks ago, but it totally slipped my mind. Have you guys seen that e.l.f. Cosmetics has some new products??? That's right, now they have false eye lashes and All Over Color Sticks. Although I love the way false eye lashes look, I am completely retarded when it comes to applying false eye lashes at home. I've tried all the tips of cutting them apart and using tweezers to place them in, but they never look right. I am interested in the All Over Color Sticks though. Has anyone tried these? Let me know if you have...I'd love to hear your review. Oh, and check out the banner below if you're thinking of picking anything up. They are offering FREE SHIPPING on orders of $30 or more with the coupon / promo code JOLLY.

Studying For Finals

I just wanted to let everyone know that I really started studying for finals this past week. My first one is early next week and my last one isn't until the week before Christmas. As a result, my posts might be pretty sporadic. I just wanted to let everyone know what was going on. Also, let me say that I am so envious of everyone out there that doesn't have to study for finals! You are so lucky! What was I thinking going to grad school?
