Winter Whites

Most have heard the "you never wear white after Labor Day" line a million times, but there is something alluring about wearing white in the winter. Of course, you have to choose your white items carefully. Frilly white cotton dresses with eyelets are out. Too summery. Anything too fluffy and you'll look like a marshmallow. Look for wintery textures: cashmere, wool, satin, lace, textured cable knits, etc. Look for items that are somewhat form fitting or risk the marshmallow problem. Leather is okay, but it has to be subtle or you run the risk of looking like you walked out of a 1980s rock video. The same rings true for denim. Stay away from those white jeans but a white denim cropped jacket paired with a black shirt and pants or skirt has a certain elegance about it. If you have the "white will make me look fat" fear, try using white accessories. A white scarf and gloves set screams elegant. Stay away from white boots with dark pants or tights because that will break the line.

INC International Concepts® Ribbed Eyelash Turtleneck Sweatericon - "Eyelash texture makes this turtleneck as soft and gorgeous as the first snowfall. Allover narrow rib. Long sleeves. Hits at hip." The oversized turtleneck on this sweater gives it a cozy winter look.

Calvin Klein Jeans Cowl-Neck Sweatericon - "An oversized ribbed cowl neck lends a feminine touch to this casual sweater. Rolled edges at the cuffs and bottom. Hits at low hip." I absolutely love this sweater. I picked this up at Macy's in December and have quickly overworn it. It is so versitile. Looks great with jeans and heels and just the same with a black mini skirt for a night out. The neck is a perfect option for those who hate the tightness of turtlenecks. It is a gorgeous shade of ivory.

Polo Jeans Co. Fine-Rib Turtleneckicon - "Very soft knit in a very fine ribbed texture. Seamless turtleneck can be worn folded over or scrunched. Hits at hip." You can never have too many layering pieces. This turtleneck fits into that category. This finely ribbed lightweight shirt can be worn alone or under a number of items for many a versitile look.

Calvin Klein Notched-Collar Angora/Lambswool Coaticon - This is by far my favorite wintertime look. "An ultrachic coat in supersoft angora and lambswool, with notched collar and tonal pickstitch detailing at collar and placket for a special finish. Button closures. Angled flap pockets. Shaped by princess seams. Fully lined. Hits at midthigh; full length measures 34 inches." White trench coats have been taking Hollywood by storm. Celebrities from Angelina Jolie to Jennifer Aniston to Jennifer Lopez have been seen out and about in white trenches. And it's no wonder why. It is such a classic look. Don't be afraid to splurge on a white trench because it is one of those pieces that you will have in your closet forever.
