Bobbi Brown Mauve Collection - Fall 2008

Sneak peeks of the new Bobbi Brown Mauve Collection for Fall 2008 started popping up over the past few weeks. I decided to wait until it was available online for everyone to purchase (and not just for registered users) before I posted about it. There is nothing that drives me crazier than when I see some new product that I must have only to find out that the line doesn't come out for weeks or even months!

I'm so excited that Bobbi's newest collection revolves around mauve. I think that mauve is a very natural look on anyone. It works well with all skintones. It's very Bobbi Brown...plays up your natural beauty without looking too made-up. As usual, the must have item in the Mauve Collection is the Mauve Face Palette. The Mauve Blush is to die for. It's a dusty pink, which is perfect for the fall since you don't want to look to pinky and summery. That being said, it doesn't make you look drab, it's very warm yet still brightens up your face. The palette also includes 3 lip colors in Mauve, Vintage Mauve, and Dusty Mauve as well as 3 eye shadows in Navajo, Vintage, and Chocolate Mauve. The Chocolate Mauve shade is a perfect liner shadow.

My other favorite piece from this collection is the Black Mauve Shimmer Ink Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner. Shimmer eyeliners are like crack for me, that is, when they're done right. This one is. The black is a "near black" infused with bronze and gold shimmer. When I tried this on at the counter it nearly made my blue eyes pop out of my head. My eyes look so big and bright with this liner on.

Now we get to the products I'm not too sure about...the lip colors. The mauve trend obviously continues through to these products, however, there is much more purple in some of these pieces than in the eye and face colors. First, there are 2 new lip stick colors: Heather Mauve and Pale Mauve. Heather Mauve is probably the most neutral and natural looking color in the bunch. That being said, I think it looks more like a color for an older woman. Pale Mauve should have been called Frosted Mauve in my opinion. When I put it on it was like a flash back to the 80s and the time when frosted lips ruled. It has a blue-purple tinge to it. I passed on this one.

Second, there are 2 new Shimmer Glosses: Black Pearl and Iced Mauve. Both of these shades look like great colors in the tube. On the lips, well that's a different story. The colors are extremely dark on...at least on my medium skin tone. I was jetted out of the 80s and into the 90s when Goth lips started popping up. I don't even know how to describe either of these colors. Both seem like a reddish-lavender combination. Others have been raving about these two shades, so maybe they will work well for you. I would recommend that if you are interested in these shades you might want to check them out in person before snagging them.

Lastly, there is 1 new Lip Gloss: Mauve. This is a typical mauvey shade, but I still think that there is a little more plum in it than usual. Of all of the new lip products I will say that this one is my favorite, which is strange since I am usually all about the shimmer shades. The color swatch online is darker than the actual product. What it lacks in shimmer it more than makes up for in shine.

So there you have it. Highlights of Bobbi Brown's Mauve Collection for Fall 2008. It's available online at BobbiBrown.com as well as at most Bobbi Brown Cosmetics Counters (I say most because everyone that I have been to has had it, but the official launch date wasn't supposed to be until mid-July). Happy Shopping!

I 100% agree about the lip colors. I tried all of them on and they all looked horrible on. I had hope becuase they looked so cute in the tube but it just made me look like death when I tried them on. The compact was really nice though. I did purchase that.
