Tarte Enbrigtenment

I've been coming across a lot of new products at Sephora.com lately. It seems that Tarte is really enjoying the idea of teaming up with other companies to offer great products. First it was Borba, and now it's BriteSmile. Introducing Tarte Enbrightenment. This double ended "pen" contains Tarte's brand new t5 super fruit complex on one end and BriteSmile's teeth whitening formula on the other.

I love the concept of this product. I have actually used BriteSmile before and really liked it; particularly because of the "pen" dispenser. Just brush it on your teeth and you're good to go. I will say though, that often times I would forego using it because I usually only thought about doing it after I brushed my teeth, which was not recommended. With Tarte Enbrightenment, I will have it in my purse and will be reminded to apply the teeth whitener at some point during the day...way before I brush my teeth.

I'm really excited to try Tarte's t5 super fruit complex as well. I know I will not be disappointed because I have loved everyone of the Tarte products I have tried, particularly their lippies. Enbrightenment comes in your choice of 2 colors: Pearly Pink and Radiant Red. I've ordered Pearly Pink and am anxiously awaiting its arrival on my doorstep. Once I've tried it, I will give you a review. If anyone else has already gotten their hands on this product, feel free to leave your comments.

Lip Gloss May Raise Skin Cancer Risk

As I was getting reading to leave for class yesterday, I had the noon news on in the background. Just as I was about to turn the television off and head out the door, the news began to break for commercial and in their list of stories to come, one caught my eye...New Health Risk Associated With Lip Gloss. What?!?! I wear lip gloss everyday! So of course I sat there and waited for 20 minutes before they finally got to the story. A new research study shows that lip glosses, particularly shiney glosses, attract harmful UV sunrays and thus raise the risk of skin cancer. A quick Google Search returns a bunch of news stories about this.

Now, I don't know what types of lipglosses they used during this study. I say that because as you all know, many lip glosses now come with SPF included in them. So it would be interesting to see if they only focused on lip glosses lacking some sort of protection already built into them. The study suggests that you put some sort of sun protection (they recommend 30 SPF) on your lips first and then put your gloss on top.

So, here are some of my favorite lippies that already contain some SPF in them. First and foremost, Tarte 24/7 Lip Sheers SPF 15. I actually already do use this as a base for some of my lip glosses. The texture is so wonderfully smooth and it makes my lips feel so hydrated. The coverage is great, the colors are great.

Next, (and I actually think this one is tied for first), Bare Escentuals Lip Guards SPF 15. Just as sheer and beautiful as the Tarte Lip Sheers, I absolutely love how these lippies feel on. After using these for just a few days, my lips were noticably softer. And I love the containers these come in. I will say, I have never been a fan of the tubs that have the little hole in the slanted plastic top. That plastic top always seemed to make the gloss messier than it needed to be, slopping it around all over the place. The wonderful people at Bare Escentuals fixed that problem by applying a sponge like material on the top. I love it. If you have not tried this product yet, you absolutely must. One other thing about this product, while I love my Tarte Lip Sheers, they are not a hot summer day in Chicago's best friend. I usually cannot leave the Lip Sheers stashed in my car because they tend to melt. With the BE Lip Guards you don't have this problem because they don't come in the "Push-Pop" like tube. Just something to keep in mind if you're anything like me.

Sephora Sun Safety Kit

Summer is fast approaching. That means it's time to be even more religious about using sunscreen. Although I try to use sunscreen on my face all of the time, I must admit that it doesn't always happen. Fortunately, most of the facial make-up that I use contains a decent amount of SPF. During the summer, however, there are many days that I go without make-up...particularly those days that I spend in the pool (I am not one of those girls that get all dolled up just to jump in the pool!)...so those are the days I need to make sure I have got some UV fighting products available. I absolutely love the annual Sephora Sun Safety Kit. The kit this year is out of this world. Check out what's included:

0.05 oz Korres Natural Products Watermelon Sunscreen Face Cream SPF 30, a 0.25 oz Peter Thomas Roth Max Sheer All Day Defense Moisture Lotion SPF 30, a 1 oz DDF Daily Protective Moisturizer SPF 15, a 0.35 oz Cosmedicine Medi-Matte Oil Control Lotion SPF 20, a 0.17 oz Juice Beauty Green Apple Moisturizer SPF 15, a 1 oz Murad Firming Bronzer SPF 15, a 0.08 oz Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion SPF 55 PA + + +, six single-use packs of MD Skincare Powerful Sun Protection Pads SPF 30, a 0.17 oz Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control Cream Ultra Protection SPF 30, a 0.25 oz Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer SPF 15, and a 0.098 oz Tarte 24/7 Lip Sheer SPF 15, plus a UV indicator card, all in a limited-edition Sephora pouch.

Most of the best companies are represented. The Tarte 24/7 Lip Sheer is a nice surprise in this kit. Best of all is the price. $25!!! 100 percent of the net profits (that's $21.55 from every kit sold!) will benefit The Skin Cancer Foundation. If you're still looking for something for your Mom for Mother's Day this is a great idea. I give this to my Mom every year. Really, what Mom wouldn't love some skin products that will help keep her looking good??? Even better, if you pick up one for her and one for you you'll hit the $50 requirement for FREE SHIPPING.

Happy Earth Day

While I'm not a huge environmentalist who's out their hugging trees, I do believe that there a little things that everyone can do to help the environment; little things that take no effort and won't have some kind of jolting impact on your life.

Recycle your bath and body product plastic bottles. I admit it, I used to be really lazy and when a shampoo bottle emptied, I'd just toss it into the bathroom garbage can. The walk down the stairs, into the garage, and to the recycling bin was just too long. But then I thought about the number of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bubble bath, facial cleansers, etc. bottles that I use throughout the year. Way too many to just throw away.

Recycle your cosmetic packaging. A lot of people don't even think twice about throwing away the tiny boxes that our favorite products come packaged in. Those are usually cardboard/paper too! So toss them into the recycling bin too.

Trade in your cosmetic containers. Lots of cosmetic companies offer programs that let you trade in your old cosmetic containers for something new! The Back to MAC program allows you to trade in 6 MAC containers for a FREE MAC LIPSTICK! Just ask your favorite company if they have a program.

Use Method Products to clean your home. I jumped on this bandwagon sometime last year. My Sweetie has a respiratory condition and it got me thinking that I shouldn't be using harsh chemicals to clean my home. Enter Method products. I already LOVED their hand washes (remember the post on Vanilla Peppermint last Christmas???) but little did I know that they were a "green" company making tons of non-toxic cleaning products from natural ingredients. I purchased a Method Detox Kit and have been hooked ever since. Not only do these products clean (and personally, I think they do an even better job than some of the old chemicals I used to use) but they smell so good! And I'm not talking about horrible lemon scents intertwined with harsh ammonia scents. Who would have thought cleaning products would be capable of that?

Skip the blowdryer when you can. If you are blowdryer dependant, try skipping it at least once a week. You'll save a ton of energy, and your hair will thank you for it too.

Switch to energy efficient lightbulbs. I can't even tell you what a difference that makes. My electricity bill has fallen drastically after I changed all of the lightbulbs in my house. Yeah, they may cost a little more, but the savings on your electric bill more than make up for it!

So that's my public service announcement for the day. Please, feel free to post any additional tips (including your favorite cosmetic company recycling program) through the comments.

Free Shipping On Outer Wear At Overstock.com

I wish I would have seen this yesterday, as the promotion only runs until tomorrow, April 6th. I have been looking for a new Spring jacket and found a ton of great jackets at Overstock.com. Some of the prices are unbelievable as well. Tons of designer trench coats at half price and more. I believe that the trench coat is a classic piece that you can never have too many of. Especially now that they are making them in every imaginable color instead of just khaki, black, gray, and white like before. Here are some of my favorites.

Steve Madden Double Breasted Wool Trench Coat - I absolutely love the Chocolate color. It's a wool coat, so definately not the Spring jacket that I was looking for. But at $46.99 (a whopping 79% off of it's original price of $225), it's such a value that I picked one up for next winter. The large buttons that pop out over the front make this jacket very unique. Search for Item #10853110.

Vertigo Women's Double-breasted Trench Coat - I love jackets with contrasting piping and buttons. These black and white trenches just scream style. The colors and the double breasted cut are classic. A jacket that you will be able to wear year after year without going out of style. Plus, it's 100% polyester, so this fits into my Spring jacket needs. It's marked down 68% at $124.99 from $385.00. Search for Item #11179626.

DKNY Women's Black Classic Trench Coat - You can never go wrong with DKNY or a classic trench. Why mess with a good thing? This 6-button, double breasted trench is timeless. The cotton/nylon/spandex blend makes it perfect for Spring. The $106.99 price (down 57% from $250) won't break the bank either. Search for Item #11198589.

Anne Klein Double-breasted Lightweight Peacoat - For a shorter jacket, I am absolutely smitten with this polyester peacoat. Like a trench coat, with it's 6-button, double breasted front, the shorter cut allows you to show off that hot new skirt your wearing during these warmer months. It's a great buy at $64.99 (down 59% from $160.00). Search for Item #11032061.

So those were just some of the many that caught my eye. Make sure that you click the banner below to take advantage of Overstock's monthly coupon. No coupon / promo code required...just click the link to activate it. If you find a jacket that you think is fabulous, feel free to post about it in the comments. Happy Shopping!

New Kids On The Block Reunited!!!

Okay, so I know I am a total dork, but New Kids On The Block have reunited!!! I have been following this development online ever since People.com leaked a story many months ago. Their official website, NKOTB.com, featured a countdown clock that ended today with an official announcement of their reuniting on the Today Show. If you missed them on Today, check out the video clip here.

I know, I know, I'm a total dork, but I don't care! I'm not ashamed to say that I love the New Kids! I don't care who knows that I have every CD ever recorded by them and that their Greatest Hits CD is a staple in my car. I am only hoping and praying that they come to Chicago when they tour. I am like one of 10 people my age who did not get to see NKOTB in concert when they were in their glory.

They're also going to release a new album! I cannot wait to hear it. I can't even imagine what to expect from this project but I'm sure it's going to be great. More info to come!

Bare Escentuals Buxom Babes Lip Tints

I'm excited to tell everyone that Bare Escentuals has released a set pf Buxom Babes Lip Tints in great Summery shades. Bare Escentuals Buxom Babes Lip Tints is now available featuring Cherry (sheer poppy shine/cherry scented), Coco (sheer butter shine/coconut-scented), Margarita (sheer raspberry shine/berry-lime scented) and Melonie (sheer fuchsia shine/melon-scented shades. Even the names just scream Summertime!

I absolutely LOVE Buxom Babes Lip Tints in every shade. The texture is so unbelievably smooth. This is a lip gloss that actually feels like it is nourishing your lips, making them softer by the second. The shine is also out of this world. It's so nice to see these lighter, Springy/Summery shades as most of the other shades available in the last Buxom Babes set as well as the full size products are a little darker, but still beautiful. At $28, this is a steal. Sephora.com states that this is only available at Sephora. Obviously, this is also a limited edition. Happy Shopping!
